More than one thousand employees of the Public Works Department will be made redundant. This was confirmed by the chairman of Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), Lieutenant-Colonel, Pio Tikoduadua yesterday.

“The cabinet has already endorsed the redundancy package for those who will be made redundant.”

While hundreds would be made redundant, Lieutenant-Colonel Tikoduadua said around 200 employees would be absorbed by the FRA in terms of labour resource.

“All established public servants will be absorbed into the authority, however if they do not wish to proceed with their jobs in the established department or the field they can accept voluntary redundancy.

Workers that would be absorbed into the Fiji Roads Authority, will be selected on technical grounds based on their skills.

Lieutenant-Colonel Tikoduadua said most of the wage-earners and unestablished workers would be made redundant.
