Educators from Georgia will arrive in the country soon to help boost the Government’s efforts on education for all.

They will deliver 1000 more note books (small compact portable computers) for use by rural Fijian schoolchildren.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, who has just finished an official visit to Georgia, confirmed: “A delegation from the Ministry of Education, Georgia, will bring shortly to Fiji 1000 net books for rural schools.”

It follows 400 net books the Georgians gave Fiji earlier this year.

Ratu Inoke had a series of high level meetings in Georgia, including with President Mikheil Saakashvili and Prime Minister, Vano Merabishvili.

President Saakashvili invited Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to visit Georgia.

Ratu Inoke said Mr Merabishvili confirmed that their relationship and co-operation with Fiji would continue and could be further enhanced.

Georgia is an economically fast growing nation of 4.7 million people in Eastern Europe. Its economic growth follows a major reform programme it undertook as it moved away from the Soviet era.

Ratu Inoke said Georgia’s help would come in various forms.

“Georgia offers to Fiji three medical scholarships and three scholarships for any other field of study,” he said.

“Possible areas of co-operation could include police infrastructure, public service and other areas of mutual interest.”

Ratu Inoke said: “Early this year 400 net books were delivered to schools in Fiji.

The Georgian Prime Minister said his country sought to further expand multifaceted co-operation with Fiji for the mutual benefit of the two nations.”
